Stade Rennais have completed the signing of United States international Bryan Reynolds from Belgian First Division A side Westerlo, the club announced on Thursday. The 25-year-old right-back has signed a contract with the French club that runs until 2030. Reynolds joins Rennes as their sixth major signing of the summer transfer window.
Reynolds began his professional career with FC Dallas in Major League Soccer, quickly establishing himself as a promising talent before a move to Serie A with AS Roma in 2021. His time in Rome was hampered by inconsistent opportunities, and he spent a period on loan at Club Brugge before securing a permanent transfer to Westerlo last year. He has earned seven caps for the USMNT, scoring one goal.
At Westerlo, Reynolds regained consistent playing time and showcased his attacking capabilities from the right-back position, contributing significantly to their performances in the Belgian league. His arrival at Rennes provides competition for Polish international Przemyslaw Frankowski, who joined the club last summer. Rennes will compete in the Europa League this season, a factor Reynolds cited as a key motivator for the move.
“It’s a new step up, a high one,” Reynolds said in a statement released by the club. “I was very eager to get here, it’s logical to accept such a challenge with the Europa League.” Rennes have been active in the transfer market this summer, also bringing in Adrien Thomasson (from Lens on a free transfer), Gonçalo Oliveira (from Benfica), Nicolas Lemaître (from Troyes on a free transfer), Issa Soumaré (from Le Havre on a free transfer), and Eliezer Mayenda (from Southampton). The addition of Reynolds further strengthens Rennes’ squad as they prepare for a challenging season in Ligue 1 and European competition. The signing addresses a need for depth at right-back and provides manager Bruno Génésio with further tactical options.
Reynolds’ ability to contribute in the final third and his athleticism will likely be valuable assets for Rennes. His experience playing in both European and North American leagues gives him a diverse skillset that could prove beneficial as he adapts to the French top flight.
