Rennes are set to exercise their option to purchase Arnaud Nordin from Mainz for approximately €2 million, the club confirmed, while forward Estéban Lepaul is attracting interest from several European clubs. The decision on Nordin comes as Rennes evaluate their squad following a season that saw them secure European football despite a late-season stumble.
Rennes finished sixth in Ligue 1, qualifying for the Europa Conference League, though their final European placement remains contingent on Lens’ result in the Coupe de France final. The club postponed their end-of-season review, including presentations from president Arnaud Pouille and sporting director Loïc Désiré, to gain clarity on their European competition. This uncertainty impacts both preparation for next season and potential revenue.
Nordin joined Rennes on loan in January and has impressed, prompting the club to activate the purchase option. Elsewhere in the squad, Adrien Thomasson will join from Lens next season, strengthening the midfield. However, Djaoui Cissé may seek a move due to limited playing time, and Glen Kamara is likely to be allowed to depart. Seko Fofana, recently returned from a successful loan spell at Porto, could also remain in Portugal if the club can agree a deal.
Goalkeeper Brice Samba is expected to stay, but the future of his backup, Mathys Silistrie, is uncertain, with a loan move potentially being considered to provide the young keeper with more experience. In defense, Rennes may face interest in Abdelhamid Aït-Boudlal, and are considering a contract extension. However, the biggest question mark surrounds Lepaul, who finished the season as Ligue 1’s top scorer with 21 goals and 5 assists.
According to reports, Atlético Madrid, Benfica, and Como are all monitoring Lepaul’s situation. While the player recently expressed a desire to remain at Rennes following European qualification, his impressive form has inevitably attracted attention. Rennes’ ability to retain their star asset will be a significant test as they prepare for a campaign that includes European football. The club are also in discussions regarding a potential contract extension for head coach Franck Haise.
