Real Madrid are undergoing a significant squad transformation this summer following the return of Jose Mourinho as manager and the re-election of Florentino Perez as club president. After two trophyless seasons, Los Blancos have been active in both the transfer market, bringing in four new players, and streamlining the squad with several departures.
Denzel Dumfries has arrived from Inter Milan for a fee of £17.1m, signing a four-year contract. The 30-year-old right-back provides competition for places and potentially challenges Trent Alexander-Arnold’s role. Ibrahima Konate has joined on a free transfer from Liverpool, securing a four-year deal with the Spanish giants after a protracted saga regarding his future.
Further bolstering the midfield, Bernardo Silva has also arrived on a free transfer after leaving Manchester City, committing to a two-year contract. Despite being in the latter stages of his career, Silva is expected to bring valuable experience and quality to the team. Marc Cucurella has completed a £51.8m move from Chelsea, signing a six-year contract and returning to the Spanish capital after a previous spell with Getafe.
On the exit side, Fran Garcia has rejoined Real Betis for £3.4m, with Madrid retaining a 50% sell-on clause. Dani Ceballos has been released after nine years at the club, expressing his desire for a new challenge, with a potential return to Real Betis frequently mentioned. Long-serving right-back Dani Carvajal has also departed after more than a decade and six Champions League titles, though he has not yet announced his retirement. David Alaba’s five-year stint has ended due to injury issues, and he has also been released.
Reports suggest Madrid’s ambitions don’t end there, with talks opened for Manchester City’s Rodri, potentially costing over €50m. They have also been linked with Michael Olise, though a deal from Bayern Munich would be difficult to secure. Gonzalo Garcia could also be moved on to accommodate Endrick’s return from loan at Lyon, while Franco Mastantuono is available for loan. Aurelien Tchouameni, however, is expected to remain at the club.
