AC Milan are planning a significant reshuffle of their midfield ahead of the upcoming season, with Fodé Ballo-Touré and Ruben Loftus-Cheek expected to leave the club, according to reports from Italy. The changes align with new manager Paulo Fonseca’s tactical vision and a broader restructuring effort following a season where the team narrowly missed out on European qualification.
Milan officials met with Fodé Ballo-Touré’s agent to discuss his departure, despite some criticism during his time at the club. While Ballo-Touré’s technical ability has been questioned, he reportedly has potential suitors in France and Turkey. Milan purchased the player from Monaco for €25 million in 2024 and aim to recoup a significant portion of that fee. He will initially join the team for pre-season training before a potential transfer.
Ardon Jashari, who arrived last summer but struggled to make a significant impact due to injury and adaptation issues, is viewed as a key part of Fonseca’s plans. The young Swiss midfielder showed glimpses of his potential, notably in a win against Genoa, and the new coach believes he can develop Jashari’s talent. Warren Bondo, returning from a loan spell at Cremonese, is also likely to be moved on, with the club seeking around €8 million for the 22-year-old.
The future of Ruben Loftus-Cheek is uncertain, with his contract expiring in 2027. Fonseca is reportedly open to allowing the Englishman to leave if a suitable offer arises. Ismaël Bennacer, back from a loan at Dinamo Zagreb, is also facing an uncertain future, as is Yunus Musah, who recently returned from a loan spell at Atalanta. Milan owner Gerry Cardinale is determined to retain Adrien Rabiot, viewing him as a crucial player, and is prepared to resist any offers, potentially from clubs like Napoli. The club will also hold discussions with Luka Modrić once he finishes his international commitments, assessing his fitness and willingness to compete in the Europa League. This conversation with Fonseca will determine his role at the club.
These changes suggest Milan are prioritizing youth and tactical flexibility in midfield, building around players like Rabiot and Jashari. The overhaul aims to create a more dynamic and technically proficient midfield capable of challenging for Champions League qualification.
