Manchester United defender Harry Maguire will remain at Old Trafford despite reports linking him with a move to Inter Milan, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The news comes after Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed Inter had been offered the opportunity to sign the England international this summer.
Maguire recently signed a new contract with United in early April, extending his stay at the club until June 2027, with an additional one-year option. This commitment followed reported interest from several other clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Juventus, and AC Milan, but the centre-back ultimately decided to remain with the Red Devils.
Speaking after signing his new deal, Maguire expressed his pride in representing Manchester United and his confidence in the team’s future. United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, also highlighted Maguire’s leadership and experience as vital assets to the squad. The defender has played a key role in securing Champions League qualification for the club.
However, speculation arose in Italy suggesting Inter Milan were considering a move for Maguire. Romano swiftly addressed these rumours, stating on his YouTube channel that his understanding is that Maguire is “staying at Man Utd.” He directly refuted the claims circulating in the Italian media.
This development is somewhat surprising given the recent reports, but it aligns with the club’s apparent desire to retain Maguire’s services. The new contract suggests a continued belief in his abilities, and his experience is valued within the squad. Maguire’s continued presence provides stability to the United defence as they prepare for the upcoming season and look to challenge for major honours.
