Rubén Amorim is expected to arrive in Italy within the next 24-48 hours to finalize his appointment as the new manager of Milan, according to reports in Portugal. The Portuguese coach will succeed Stefano Pioli, who departed the club earlier this year, and take charge of the Serie A side.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports that Amorim is poised to sign a two-year contract with Milan, with an option for a third season. The deal is believed to be worth around €3.5 million net per year, alongside performance-based bonuses tied to trophy wins and Champions League qualification. This move would see Amorim forgo a pre-existing agreement with Manchester United, where he was previously under contract until June 30, 2027, despite being relieved of his duties in January.
Amorim, 41, enjoyed a successful playing career as a midfielder, representing Portugal at two World Cups. His managerial career began in Portugal, where he achieved notable success with Sporting CP. He led Sporting to their first Portuguese league title in 19 years in 2021, repeating the feat the following year. His tenure with the club ended in November 2024 when he moved to Manchester United, but he struggled to replicate his success in England.
This appointment fulfills the first key position within Milan following a restructuring of the club after failing to qualify for the Champions League. Owner Gerry Cardinale is prioritizing a complete overhaul of the sporting structure, and the next target is reportedly a new technical director. Markus Krösche, currently at Eintracht Frankfurt, is considered the frontrunner for that role, with plans to bring Timmo Hardung with him as sporting director. The club is also seeking a new Chief Executive Officer to complete the rebuild. The arrival of Amorim signals a clear intent to return Milan to a position of prominence in both Serie A and European competition.
