Udinese manager Kosta Runjaic addressed the media ahead of his side’s Serie A clash with Cagliari, providing updates on player fitness and discussing his own future with the club.
Runjaic emphasized the importance of building on recent performances rather than focusing on historical achievements, referencing the club record set under previous manager Francesco Guidolin. He stated the team’s focus is on securing nine more points and improving both their style of play and results, aiming to finish the season strongly. He used an analogy of a disappointing book to illustrate the importance of a positive conclusion to the campaign.
Regarding team selection, Runjaic confirmed that Keinan Davis, Bertola, and Zemura will be available for the match against Cagliari, though they are unlikely to start. He expressed a desire to see Davis in the starting lineup for the upcoming fixture against Cremonese. However, Runjaic also revealed that Ekkelenkamp’s season has been cut short due to injury.
The manager also addressed the recent contract renewal of midfielder Karlstrom, stating his pleasure at the news and highlighting the importance of continuity within the squad. Runjaic confirmed he has a year remaining on his own contract and that discussions are already underway regarding plans for next season. He acknowledged the club’s tendency to sell key players but expressed a commitment to retaining as many members of the current squad as possible.
Runjaic’s comments suggest a desire to build a stable and competitive Udinese side, despite the potential for player departures. The club currently sits comfortably in mid-table, and Runjaic’s focus is on securing a positive end to the season and laying the groundwork for future success.
