Borussia Dortmund have received positive news regarding Julian Ryerson’s injury sustained while on international duty with Norway, with the club anticipating his return to training in early August. The 28-year-old suffered the injury during Norway’s 1-2 extra-time defeat to England in the World Cup quarter-finals, prompting concerns over his availability for the start of the Bundesliga season.
According to Ruhr Nachrichten, medical assessments have revealed the injury is not as severe as initially feared, allowing Dortmund to reassess their transfer strategy. Specifically, the proposed sale of Yan Couto to Italian Serie B side Como 1907 has been temporarily halted while Ryerson’s condition was evaluated. The club had reportedly paused the deal to avoid being short-handed at right-back.
Ryerson joined Borussia Dortmund in January 2023 from Union Berlin, quickly establishing himself as a key component of Edin Terzić’s side. He made 18 Bundesliga appearances last season, contributing defensively and offering an attacking outlet from the right flank. His versatility and consistent performances have also attracted interest from other clubs across Europe.
Despite ongoing speculation linking Ryerson with a potential move away from the Signal Iduna Park, Inter Milan have reportedly withdrawn from the race to sign the player, according to reports from Italy. The Nerazzurri were previously identified as strong contenders for his signature, but appear to have shifted their focus to alternative targets. While other clubs remain interested, Dortmund’s improved outlook regarding Ryerson’s fitness may strengthen their resolve to retain the player.
The temporary suspension of Couto’s sale suggests Dortmund are now less inclined to part with either right-back in the current transfer window, providing Terzić with greater squad depth ahead of a demanding season. Dortmund will compete in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League, making a strong defensive unit crucial for success.
