Liverpool are undergoing a significant squad overhaul ahead of the arrival of new manager Andoni Iraola, with several high-profile departures already confirmed. Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate will all leave the club this summer, ending notable chapters in the club’s recent history.
Salah’s exit marks the end of an era for the forward, who will be released as a free agent despite signing a new contract last year. The club announced in March that the 33-year-old would depart at the end of the season, allowing him to move on as a gesture of goodwill. During his time at Anfield, Salah scored 257 goals in 442 appearances, establishing himself as a club legend.
Andy Robertson will also leave Liverpool on a free transfer after nine years of service. The Scotland captain saw out the final season of his contract, despite reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur in January. Robertson made a total of 378 appearances for the club since his £8m move from Hull City in 2017, becoming a key figure in Liverpool’s success.
Centre-back Ibrahima Konate is the third confirmed departure, with his contract having lapsed after a year of uncertainty surrounding a potential renewal. The 27-year-old made 183 appearances for Liverpool after joining from RB Leipzig in 2021, and has reportedly agreed terms with Real Madrid, pending their presidential elections. Konate expressed his sadness at leaving, stating he would carry Liverpool with him wherever he goes.
Liverpool have already secured two signings for the summer window: 20-year-old defender Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for a fee of £55m, potentially rising to £60m with add-ons, and 18-year-old defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Wien for £2.6m. The arrival of Jacquet is expected to bolster the defence long-term, while Ndukwe represents a signing for the future. The club is now expected to focus on replacing Salah and finding cover at left-back and potentially in goal, with Alisson Becker’s future also uncertain. The midfield is another area of focus, with Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister’s contracts both expiring soon.
