Former Napoli and Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri has emerged as a potential candidate to take charge of Fiorentina next season, according to comments made by Francesco Flachi on Radio Bruno’s Pentasport program.
Flachi, a former Fiorentina striker, suggested Sarri would be a ‘safe’ appointment for the club, currently without a permanent head coach. The club is seeking stability after a disappointing end to the season, and a managerial change is widely anticipated. Sarri has been without a club since leaving Lazio at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Flachi also discussed the possibility of Roma manager Daniele De Rossi taking the role, but believes he is likely to remain at Genoa, where he has overseen a successful campaign. He highlighted De Rossi’s positive impact at Genoa, emphasizing his ability to develop players and instill a clear identity. De Rossi’s connection with the Genoa fanbase was also cited as a reason for his potential continued stay.
Flachi was highly critical of Fiorentina’s recent performance, particularly their 3-0 defeat to Roma, describing the team as ‘resigned’ and lacking enthusiasm. He questioned the squad’s desire for survival, suggesting the team only performed well in a handful of matches throughout the season, specifically mentioning Bologna and Como. He also pointed to the inconsistency of key players, using Albert Gudmundsson as an example of a player who can perform well for a short period but may eventually fade.
Regarding potential reinforcements, Flachi highlighted Lorenzo Lucca as a promising option. He also noted the unpredictable nature of Fiorentina’s sporting director, Paratici, suggesting that any outcome is possible under his leadership. The club will likely be active in the transfer market this summer as they attempt to rebuild and address the issues highlighted by Flachi and other observers.
The appointment of Sarri would represent a return to Serie A for the experienced coach, who previously led Napoli to two second-place finishes and won the Europa League with Chelsea. His possession-based style of play could potentially revitalize a Fiorentina side that has struggled for consistency.
