Sasa Ilic will continue his career with Torino, the club have confirmed, despite recent speculation linking him with a potential move. The Serbian midfielder’s future had been the subject of some debate, but Torino have moved to secure his services on a permanent basis. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed by either club.
Ilic initially joined Torino on loan from Hellas Verona in January 2023, quickly establishing himself as a key component in Ivan Juric’s midfield. He made 16 Serie A appearances for the Granata last season, contributing with one goal and two assists. His performances demonstrated a strong work ethic and passing range, qualities that impressed the Torino coaching staff. The move was always likely to become permanent, with the club consistently praising his impact.
The 27-year-old began his professional career with Red Star Belgrade, where he won the Serbian SuperLiga title in 2018. He then moved to Benfica in Portugal, but struggled to gain regular playing time. A subsequent transfer to Hellas Verona in 2021 provided him with a platform to showcase his abilities in Serie A, leading to the loan move to Torino. Ilic has also represented Serbia at various youth levels, earning caps for the Under-21 team.
Torino have been relatively quiet in the transfer window so far, focusing instead on retaining key players like Ilic. The club finished mid-table in Serie A last season and will be aiming to improve their performance in the upcoming campaign. Securing Ilic’s permanent transfer provides stability to their midfield and allows Juric to continue building his team around a core group of established players. This move signals Torino’s intent to build a competitive squad capable of challenging for European qualification.
With Ilic’s future now resolved, Torino can focus on other potential transfer targets as they prepare for the start of the new Serie A season. The club are reportedly also interested in strengthening their attacking options, with several forwards linked with a move to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
