Sassuolo coach Fabio Grosso addressed the media ahead of his team’s Serie A match against Lecce, confirming goalkeeper Muric has stated his intention to leave the club at the end of his loan spell from Ipswich Town. Grosso acknowledged Muric’s statement but deferred to the club to handle the situation, emphasizing his good working relationship with the player and focusing on on-field decisions.
The coach provided an update on the team’s injury list, revealing that Boloca, Candé, Romagna, Vranckx, and Walukiewicz are currently unavailable. Defender Idzes is a doubt for the match, though Grosso indicated some youth players may be called up to supplement the squad. Pieragnolo is returning to training but will not be rushed back into action.
In more positive news, Sassuolo have successfully renewed the contract of French midfielder Armand Laurienté, who joined the club in 2022. Grosso expressed his satisfaction with the renewal, stating it demonstrates a commitment to continuity and will place added responsibility on Laurienté to meet expectations. He also praised the club for securing the extension.
Grosso also touched on the team’s remaining objectives for the season, highlighting the possibility of achieving a record points total for a newly promoted side. He stressed the importance of maintaining a professional approach and competing in every match, particularly against Lecce, who are fighting to avoid relegation. Grosso believes small details, such as finishing with 50 points instead of 49 or scoring more goals, are important considerations as the season concludes. The team is currently one point ahead of Cremonese in the relegation battle.
The coach emphasized the need for Sassuolo to perform to their full potential against a motivated Lecce side with strong fan support, aiming to add to their impressive season’s work.
