Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Manchester City winger Savinho has been significantly boosted after the Brazilian submitted a transfer request, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. The 22-year-old is seeking more regular playing time after starting only 14 of his 36 appearances for City last season, where he registered four goals and three assists.
Savinho was a target for Tottenham as far back as last summer, and the north London club are now confident of securing his signature as part of Roberto De Zerbi’s plans to revamp the team’s attacking options. De Zerbi has publicly stated his desire to add a new left-winger and striker to his squad.
While other options such as Rafael Leao of AC Milan and Benfica’s Andreas Schjelderup have been considered, Savinho has remained a consistent target for Spurs. News of the player’s transfer request comes at a favourable time for Tottenham, who struggled to adequately replace Son Heung-min on the left flank last season, with several players failing to impress in the role.
Savinho’s potential departure from the Etihad Stadium is further complicated by the arrival of Enzo Maresca as City’s new manager, and the presence of several other wide players including Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku, Antoine Semenyo, Phil Foden and the returning Jack Grealish. Tottenham are expected to have to pay around £60 million to secure Savinho’s services, though his desire to leave may influence negotiations.
There is reported interest from AC Milan, who could view Savinho as a replacement for Leao should the Portuguese international depart, but Tottenham are currently considered to be in a strong position to complete the deal. The move would provide De Zerbi with a dynamic attacking option and address a key area of need within the squad.
