Michele Sbravati is set to leave his role within the Juventus youth setup to join Atalanta, according to Sky Sports. The move comes after a brief stint in Turin, where he had been working since July 2024, and will see him depart the club before the expiration of his contract, which had been due to run for another two seasons.
Sbravati, born in 1965, is highly regarded within Italian football for his work in youth development. He had initially been linked with a move to Inter, with reports suggesting an agreement was close, but a subsequent change in direction at the Nerazzurri saw Massimo Tarantino remain in his position. Roma were also reported to have considered Sbravati as they search for a replacement for Frederic Massara, their current sporting director.
Atalanta’s pursuit of Sbravati was spearheaded by the Percassi family, the club’s owners, and Roberto Samaden, the head of their youth sector. The appointment aligns with Atalanta’s plans for a new cycle following their qualification for the Conference League. The club recently appointed Cristiano Giuntoli as their new Football Director, and he will be reunited with Sbravati, having worked together previously at Juventus.
Before joining Juventus, Sbravati spent fifteen years with Genoa, from 2008 to 2024, overseeing their youth academy. Prior to his time at Genoa, he held a similar role at Savona from 2000 to 2007. As a player, Sbravati featured in Serie B and Lega Pro. This move represents a significant addition to Atalanta’s youth structure as they look to build for the future under Giuntoli’s leadership.
This transfer underscores the ongoing reshuffling of personnel within the youth sectors of several Serie A clubs, as teams prioritize developing young talent to sustain long-term success. Sbravati’s experience and reputation make him a valuable asset for Atalanta as they aim to compete both domestically and in European competitions.
