Bundesliga side Schalke 04 are monitoring Yanis Cimignani, the 24-year-old midfielder currently at Swiss Super League club FC Lugano, according to L’Équipe. Cimignani has played over 100 matches for Lugano and is entering the final year of his contract, making him a potential target for several European clubs this summer.
Cimignani has demonstrated versatility this season, featuring in multiple positions for Lugano, and his performances have attracted attention from clubs in Europe’s top five leagues. Schalke 04, recently promoted to the Bundesliga, are reportedly keen on the player, continuing a trend of recruiting players with experience in French football. The club previously signed players like Sylla and Lasme, and in January brought in Adil Aouchiche, also a member of the 2002 generation and a former France youth international.
Venice, champions of Serie B and also newly promoted to a top-five league, are also considering a move for Cimignani. The Italian club could present an alternative destination for the midfielder, who previously played for AC Ajaccio in France. Cimignani’s ability to play in multiple positions would likely be valued by both clubs as they adjust to life in their respective top divisions.
Cimignani began his career in France with AC Ajaccio before moving to Switzerland to join Lugano. He has become a key player for the Swiss side, consistently featuring in the starting lineup and contributing both defensively and offensively. His contract situation at Lugano means the club may be willing to consider offers this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.
Should Cimignani join Schalke 04, he would add depth and versatility to their midfield options as they look to establish themselves back in the Bundesliga. A move to Venice would offer him the opportunity to play in Serie A, further enhancing his career progression.
