Schalke 04, recently promoted to the Bundesliga, are showing strong interest in signing forward Frank Magri following the expiration of his contract with FC Toulouse, according to reports from FußballTransfers.com. The 26-year-old Cameroonian international is available on a free transfer and is currently assessing his options.
Magri, who can also feature as a right winger, spent the last two seasons with Toulouse, contributing five goals and one assist in 17 Ligue 1 appearances last season as the club finished ninth. He initially joined Toulouse in 2022 after a spell with Royal Excel Mouscron in Belgium, where he established himself as a consistent goalscorer. Magri has also represented Cameroon at international level on 20 occasions.
Schalke have reportedly submitted multiple offers to Magri, but a deal is not yet finalized. The Gelsenkirchen club are rebuilding their squad after securing promotion back to the Bundesliga and are looking to add attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season. The club finished bottom of the Bundesliga in the 2022/23 season, suffering relegation, before earning promotion via the playoffs.
However, Schalke face competition for Magri’s signature from several other clubs. Hamburger SV, currently in the 2. Bundesliga, are also interested, while Major League Soccer side New York City FC are considered strong contenders. Additionally, Burnley FC, recently relegated from the Premier League, are monitoring the situation closely, potentially viewing Magri as a valuable addition as they aim for an immediate return to the top flight. The reported valuation of the player is around €3 million, though as a free agent, any deal will not involve a transfer fee.
Magri’s versatility and goalscoring record make him an attractive prospect for several clubs, and his next destination remains uncertain as he weighs up his options. Securing Magri would provide Schalke with a proven attacking threat, while a move to the MLS could offer a new challenge for the Cameroonian international.
