FC Schalke 04 are in discussions with SC Paderborn over a potential transfer for winger Mika Baur, according to Sky Germany. The newly promoted Bundesliga side are managed by Miron Muslic, who is reportedly a keen admirer of the 21-year-old talent. While Paderborn also secured promotion to the Bundesliga, they appear increasingly likely to lose Baur this summer.
Baur recently played a key role in Paderborn’s promotion campaign, contributing significantly to their successful play-off victory against VfL Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg have since withdrawn their interest in the player, leaving Schalke as frontrunners, though they face competition from other Bundesliga clubs. Werder Bremen had previously been linked with a move for Baur, and Sky Germany reports that FSV Mainz have also entered the race.
The German Under-21 international’s current contract with Paderborn runs until 2027, providing the club with some leverage in negotiations. However, given the interest from multiple top-flight teams, Paderborn are expected to find it difficult to retain his services. Discussions are currently underway to determine Baur’s future, with a transfer fee of around €3 million being widely reported.
Baur has developed through the Paderborn academy, becoming a regular first-team player over the past two seasons. His pace and dribbling ability make him a dangerous attacking threat, and he contributed several goals and assists during Paderborn’s promotion-winning season. Schalke are rebuilding their squad following their own promotion, and Baur would represent a promising addition to their attacking options. The transfer would allow Baur to continue his development in the Bundesliga, while providing Schalke with a dynamic winger capable of making an immediate impact.
