SC Paderborn goalkeeper Dennis Seimen is expected to return to parent club VfB Stuttgart following Paderborn’s promotion to the Bundesliga, according to Sky Germany. Seimen was instrumental in Paderborn’s 3-2 extra-time victory over VfL Wolfsburg in the promotion play-off on Monday night, securing their place in the top flight for the 2024-25 season.
Following the match, Seimen expressed his joy at the historic achievement, stating to Sky Germany, “What has happened here is unique,” and adding that he and his teammates would celebrate extensively. However, the 23-year-old acknowledged that the game was likely his last for Paderborn, given his loan arrangement with Stuttgart.
Seimen joined Paderborn on a season-long loan in July 2023, quickly establishing himself as a key player for Lukas Kwasniok’s side. He made 33 appearances across all competitions, keeping eight clean sheets and proving crucial in their promotion push. Prior to the loan move, Seimen had spent his professional career at Stuttgart, progressing through their youth academy.
Stuttgart are anticipated to install Seimen as their first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming season. The club finished second in the Bundesliga last season, qualifying for the Champions League, but have been reliant on veteran Alexander Nübel between the posts. Nübel’s loan deal from Bayern Munich has now concluded, and Stuttgart have opted to promote Seimen from within rather than pursue a permanent replacement.
The move offers Seimen the opportunity to establish himself as a Bundesliga number one at a club on the rise, while providing Stuttgart with a promising young talent to build their goalkeeping future around. Paderborn, meanwhile, will need to find a replacement for Seimen ahead of their return to the Bundesliga, a task that will be complicated by his significant contribution to their promotion success.
