Torino striker Giovanni Simeone is attracting interest from River Plate, casting doubt over his future with the Serie A club. The Argentinian forward has impressed recently, scoring in five consecutive home matches at the Grande Torino, a feat not achieved by a Torino player since Marco Ferrante in the 1999/2000 season.
Simeone has openly expressed his desire to return to River Plate, the club where he began his career, stating, “I have always said that one day I would like to return to River.” He has also acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his future, adding, “The future is uncertain, I don’t know what could happen. Now I think about Toro.”
The 29-year-old’s current contract with Torino runs until June 30, 2028, with the club holding an option to extend it for an additional year. However, River Plate’s pursuit presents a significant pull for the player, who has consistently demonstrated his affection for the Buenos Aires-based club. Simeone has scored six goals against Juventus throughout his Serie A career, playing for Genoa, Cagliari, and Verona.
Adding to the complexity, Spanish side Sevilla have also been monitoring Simeone’s progress. The potential move to Spain would allow him to reunite with his father, Diego Simeone, and brother, Giuliano Simeone, both of whom are currently at Atletico Madrid. Despite the external interest, Simeone remains focused on Torino for the remainder of the current season, hoping to add to his impressive goal-scoring record at the Grande Torino.
