Albanian goalkeeper Simon Simoni has completed a permanent transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt to Swiss Super League side FC Luzern, the German club confirmed on Tuesday. The move comes after Simoni successfully participated in a trial training period with the Swiss outfit. Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed.
Simoni joined Eintracht Frankfurt’s youth setup and contributed to the club’s reserve team earning promotion to the Regionalliga Südwest. However, opportunities to break into the first team proved limited, leading to loan spells at 2. Bundesliga clubs Ingolstadt and Kaiserslautern. Across those 18 months, Simoni made only six appearances in Germany’s second tier, struggling to establish himself as a regular starter.
Despite limited club action, Simoni has earned international recognition with Albania. He made his debut for the national team in September 2025, appearing as a substitute in a 1-0 victory against Gibraltar. This international experience likely played a role in attracting interest from FC Luzern, who are looking to bolster their goalkeeping options.
FC Luzern endured a mixed 2024-25 season, finishing at the top of the relegation group after the regular season. Their league was won by FC Thun. The club will be hoping Simoni can provide greater stability and competition in the goalkeeping position as they aim to improve their league standing in the upcoming campaign.
