Matias Soulé’s future at Roma is uncertain as the club considers his sale to meet UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations and potentially fund a move for Mason Greenwood. The Argentinian winger’s agent, Martin Guastadisegno, met with club officials at Trigoria earlier today to discuss potential options, according to reports from Italy.
Soulé experienced a mixed season with Roma, scoring 12 goals in 81 appearances across two years. Despite showing promise, he never reached double figures in league goals in a single season, partly due to physical issues. This, coupled with manager Daniele De Rossi’s plans, has led to the club deeming him a potential sacrifice.
Roma values Soulé at between €35-40 million, which would represent a profit of around €20 million for the club. This potential windfall would add to profits already secured from the sales of players like Sangaré, Saud, Baldanzi, and Ziolkowski. The club is also hoping to generate further revenue from the potential transfers of young players such as Cherubini, Romano, and Della Rocca. Selling Soulé could allow Roma to avoid selling more established players like Ndicka or Koné, who are favored by De Rossi.
Soulé himself is reportedly open to a move, anticipating reduced playing time next season with the continued presence of Paulo Dybala and De Rossi’s desire to bring in two new starting wingers. While he prefers a move to the Premier League, interest from Aston Villa and Bournemouth has so far been limited to initial inquiries. Borussia Dortmund, however, appears serious about signing the player and can offer Champions League football, alongside a positive existing relationship with Roma stemming from planned pre-season friendlies.
The potential sale of Soulé would also provide Roma with additional funds to improve their offer for Greenwood, who currently plays for Marseille. The French club is demanding €50 million plus bonuses, but Roma hopes to reach an agreement with a bid of around €45 million, banking on Greenwood’s desire to join and Marseille’s need to raise funds. The transfer could see Soulé lining up against his former club in the future.
