Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti has indicated that the core of the current squad will remain in place for the upcoming season, despite acknowledging mistakes in team selection and hinting at potential reinforcements. Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s crucial Serie A match against Lecce, Spalletti emphasized the need for a strong finish to secure Champions League qualification.
The Bianconeri have dropped points in recent matches against Milan and Verona, increasing the pressure to perform in their remaining fixtures. Spalletti confirmed that Dusan Vlahovic is in contention to start against Lecce, but cautioned against placing excessive expectations on the Serbian striker. He stressed the importance of collective responsibility and character in navigating the final stretch of the season.
Spalletti also addressed concerns about the team’s lack of experience, acknowledging the observation made by club director Giovanni Marotta that a blend of youth and seasoned players is crucial for success. While drawing comparisons to Inter’s established squad, Spalletti maintained confidence in Juventus’ potential for growth. The club is reportedly pursuing Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, aged 33, and Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva as potential additions, but Spalletti reiterated that any changes will be incremental rather than wholesale.
He admitted to making errors in player selection, specifically referencing Arkadiusz Milik, stating he believed other options would yield better results. Despite this, Spalletti praised Milik’s commitment and positive attitude within the squad. He also highlighted the importance of learning from setbacks, noting the team’s disappointment following the draw against Verona and the need to capitalize on decisive moments. The manager believes the team has the right mentality and is capable of securing a Champions League spot.
Spalletti also touched on the challenges posed by Lecce, acknowledging the quality of their manager, Marco Di Francesco, and the organizational strength of the team. He urged his players to approach the match with intensity and a proactive mindset, emphasizing the need to take risks and avoid complacency. Juventus currently sits in third place in Serie A, with a narrow lead over several teams vying for Champions League qualification.
