Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is reportedly increasing pressure on the club’s leadership to pursue ambitious transfer targets following a successful run of form, according to reports in the Italian media. After securing a vital victory against Lecce, bringing them closer to Champions League qualification, Spalletti reiterated his need for specific reinforcements, notably a creative trequartista, and highlighted defensive concerns with the build-up play of Bremer and Danilo.
Spalletti’s recent comments follow a similar pattern from January, when he publicly requested a physical centre-forward, a position the club ultimately did not fill to his satisfaction. This shift in communication style, described as a deliberate tactic to apply pressure, comes as Juventus have enjoyed a significant upturn in results, collecting 22 points from their last 10 Serie A matches – a points-per-game ratio comparable to title-winning sides. This success, after a period of uncertainty, has strengthened Spalletti’s position within the club.
The manager’s influence has been further bolstered by a contract extension through 2028, secured with the direct backing of Juventus owner John Elkann. Elkann has publicly expressed his belief in Spalletti’s ability to restore the club to its former glory, emphasizing the importance of building a team capable of challenging for the Scudetto after a seven-year drought. Spalletti has reportedly maintained a strong relationship with Elkann since his arrival, consistently articulating his vision for a title-contending Juventus.
Spalletti is advocating for the rapid construction of an “instant team,” built around key existing players like Kenan Yildiz, Weston McKennie, Manuel Locatelli, and Dusan Vlahovic, supplemented by high-profile additions. He has specifically identified Alisson, Bernardo Silva, and Randal Kolo Muani as targets, players with proven international experience and strong personalities. However, the club’s sporting director, Damien Comolli, must navigate Financial Fair Play regulations and has historically favoured different types of player profiles, creating a potential point of contention. Spalletti’s public statements are increasingly seen as a way to assert his authority and push for the acquisitions he believes are necessary to achieve his ambitions for the club.
