Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti has indicated that the core of the current squad will remain in place for the upcoming season, despite acknowledging mistakes in player selection, particularly regarding Arkadiusz Milik. Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s crucial Serie A match against Lecce, Spalletti emphasized the need for risk-taking and a decisive approach in their pursuit of a Champions League qualification spot.
The Bianconeri have drawn their last two league matches against Milan and Verona, leading to scrutiny of the team’s ability to close out games. Spalletti confirmed that Dusan Vlahovic is in contention to start against Lecce, but cautioned against placing undue pressure on the Serbian striker. He stressed the importance of character and teamwork in navigating the final stretch of the season, highlighting the need to capitalize on decisive moments.
Spalletti also addressed concerns about the team’s lack of experience, acknowledging director Giovanni Marotta’s point that a blend of youth and seasoned players is crucial for success. While acknowledging the strength of Inter’s mentality, he refrained from direct comparisons, stating that Juventus possesses its own potential for growth. The club is reportedly pursuing Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, aged 33, and Manchester City’s free agent Bernardo Silva to add experience to the squad.
Despite potential additions, Spalletti reiterated that a major overhaul is not planned. He believes the existing players have the capacity to improve and will form the foundation of the team’s future. The manager playfully acknowledged the numerous players linked with a move to Juventus, stating that a double-decker bus would be needed to accommodate them all. He also admitted to making errors in selection, specifically referencing his assessment of Milik, stating he believed other players would deliver more impactful results.
Spalletti also expressed his belief in the team’s commitment and resilience, noting the disappointment within the squad following the draw against Verona. He emphasized the importance of learning from setbacks and maintaining a professional attitude. The manager anticipates a challenging match against Lecce, praising their organization and the experience of their manager, Roberto Di Francesco, and director of football, Corvino. A win against Lecce would be a significant step towards securing a Champions League place for Juventus.
