Tottenham Hotspur are nearing the completion of a £60million deal to sign Savinho from Manchester City, according to reports. New manager Roberto De Zerbi has identified the winger as a key target as he looks to bolster his attacking options this summer.
Spurs have already spent significantly, around £230million, on strengthening their defence and midfield, but De Zerbi recognises a need for further investment in the final third. The pursuit of Savinho, a long-standing target for the club, has been reignited this summer after previous attempts to secure his signature in January were unsuccessful. At that time, manager Pep Guardiola was unwilling to let the player leave.
TEAMtalk reported in January that Savinho was receptive to a move to north London, potentially offering the attacking impetus that Tottenham lacked during a difficult season which saw them finish 17th in the Premier League. However, the transfer failed to materialise. Now, City’s stance has shifted, and negotiations between the two clubs are progressing well.
Club insider John Wenham told Tottenham News he believes the deal is “inevitable” due to the prolonged interest, but expressed some concern over the lack of apparent competition for Savinho’s signature. He also noted a worry that the player doesn’t consistently contribute a high number of goals, but hopes he will flourish under De Zerbi’s management. Tottenham reportedly moved for Savinho after deciding against pursuing other attacking targets, including Rafael Leao.
Savinho’s arrival would provide De Zerbi with another attacking option and further strengthen Tottenham’s squad ahead of the new season. The Brazilian winger’s pace and dribbling ability could add a new dimension to Spurs’ attack, potentially improving their goalscoring threat and overall attacking fluidity.
