Tottenham Hotspur have submitted an offer of €26 million, including bonuses, for Lyon winger Malick Fofana, according to French outlet Ferveur Lyonnaise. The move comes as Roberto De Zerbi looks to bolster his squad following a narrow escape from relegation last season.
Fofana, a Belgian international, has been linked with a move away from Lyon, with reports suggesting he is preparing to sell his house in anticipation of a transfer. He was previously a target for Everton, but Tottenham have now emerged as frontrunners for his signature.
Tottenham have already been active in the transfer window, securing free transfers for Andy Robertson from Liverpool and Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth. Deals for Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton and Manchester City’s Savinho are also expected to be completed. The club has also been heavily linked with a move for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, with reports indicating Manchester City also hold strong interest.
Alongside the pursuit of Tonali and Fofana, Tottenham are also considering a move for Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow, potentially as competition to or a replacement for Guglielmo Vicario. The Athletic reports that Tottenham may rival Manchester United for the Wales international.
De Zerbi is under pressure to deliver Champions League qualification next season, and the club is seemingly prepared to back him with significant investment. Securing Fofana would add another attacking option to Tottenham’s ranks, and potentially address a need for wider players in De Zerbi’s system. The addition of Tonali would significantly strengthen the midfield, while a new goalkeeper could provide further stability to the team.
