Tottenham Hotspur have emphatically dismissed reports linking them with a move for winger Mason Greenwood, according to club insider Alasdair Gold. The Football.London reporter claims the speculation is “utterly absurd” and that the club has “no interest” in signing the former Manchester United player.
This comes despite recent reports, including one from L’Equipe on Friday, suggesting both Tottenham and Arsenal were considering bids for Greenwood this summer. The 24-year-old enjoyed a productive season with Marseille, scoring 26 goals and providing 11 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions, and previously played under current Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi during his time in France.
De Zerbi’s previous comments regarding Greenwood, made before joining Tottenham, had already drawn scrutiny, particularly in light of the rape charges that were dropped against Greenwood in 2023. The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust had voiced concerns over these comments, prompting De Zerbi to issue an apology upon his arrival in North London, stating he did not want to “downplay the issue of violence against women”.
Tottenham have been active in the transfer window, strengthening their defence with the signings of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke. They have also been linked with midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes as De Zerbi looks to overhaul the squad. The club is also reportedly considering changes to their attacking options, with Richarlison and Dominic Solanke potentially departing. However, Gold’s report indicates Greenwood is not a target, despite the need for a new left-winger.
Fabrizio Romano had previously offered his assessment on a potential move, acknowledging it would be a controversial one. Tottenham continue to pursue other forward options, and are also standing firm on the stance regarding Luka Vuskovic, after Brighton had another bid rejected.
