Georgia Stanway has completed a move to Arsenal from Bayern Munich, the Gunners confirmed on Friday. The England international joins Arsenal on a permanent deal, returning to the Women’s Super League after two seasons in Germany.
Stanway joined Bayern Munich in 2022 following a successful spell with Manchester City. She quickly established herself as a key player for the Bavarian side, contributing to their domestic success. Prior to her move to Germany, Stanway came through the ranks at Blackburn Rovers before making a name for herself at Manchester City, where she became a fan favourite.
The midfielder was a key figure in England’s triumph at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, winning the tournament alongside several of her new Arsenal teammates. She has earned over 30 caps for the Lionesses and is a regular in the national team setup. Her experience and winning mentality will be a valuable asset to Arsenal.
“I am very proud to join Arsenal,” Stanway said on the club’s website. “It’s a huge club that is pushing the women’s game to new heights, and I want to be a part of that. I want to win trophies and progress as a player.” The transfer sees Stanway reunited with the English top flight and sets up potential clashes against her former club, Manchester City, who are also competing for domestic honours.
Arsenal are currently battling Barcelona at the top of the Women’s Champions League, and this signing strengthens their squad as they aim for success on both domestic and European fronts. Stanway’s arrival adds further depth and quality to Jonas Eidevall’s midfield options, providing increased competition for places and tactical flexibility.
