Strasbourg have completed the signing of Mateo Del Blanco from Argentinian side Union Santa Fe for a fee of €2.4 million, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The 22-year-old Argentinian left-back has signed a contract with the Ligue 1 side after Strasbourg met his release clause. Del Blanco was under contract with Union Santa Fe until December 2028.
Del Blanco progressed through the youth ranks at Union Santa Fe, making 108 senior appearances for the club. He established himself as a regular in the Argentinian Primera División, showcasing his attacking capabilities and defensive solidity from the left-back position. His performances had attracted interest from other European clubs, with Lyon and Toulouse also reportedly monitoring his situation, according to L’Équipe.
The move to Strasbourg represents a significant step in Del Blanco’s career, offering him the opportunity to test himself in a top-five European league. Strasbourg will be looking for Del Blanco to provide competition and depth in the left-back role. He will compete with Ben Chilwell for a starting position, adding tactical flexibility to the Strasbourg squad.
Strasbourg are preparing for the start of the Ligue 1 season, beginning with an away match against Marseille on August 21st. The acquisition of Del Blanco is part of Strasbourg’s efforts to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign, as they aim to improve upon their previous league finish. The club will hope Del Blanco can quickly adapt to the demands of European football and contribute to their ambitions this season.
