VfB Stuttgart have made an initial contract offer to forward Deniz Undav, seeking to extend his stay at the club beyond his current agreement which runs until 2027, according to Sky Germany. The offer, presented to the player last week, has been described as “appreciative” but negotiations are ongoing with a gap remaining between the club’s valuation and Undav’s demands.
Reports suggest Undav is seeking an annual salary of approximately €6 million. While discussions are progressing, both salary and the overall length of the proposed contract are still points of contention. The club is reportedly keen to resolve the situation swiftly, ideally before the player’s focus shifts to international commitments and preparations for the upcoming World Cup.
Undav joined Stuttgart in August 2023 from Union Berlin for a reported fee of €7 million, quickly establishing himself as a key player in Sebastian Hoeneß’s side. He finished the 2023-24 Bundesliga season as Stuttgart’s top scorer with 19 goals, playing a crucial role in their unexpected Champions League qualification. His form also earned him his first senior international caps for Germany, making his debut in March 2024.
Prior to his move to Stuttgart, Undav had a successful spell with Union Berlin, scoring 15 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances. He initially rose to prominence with FC St. Pauli, where his prolific goalscoring record attracted attention from across the league. His career trajectory has been somewhat unconventional, having played in the lower tiers of German football before establishing himself as a Bundesliga star.
Following Stuttgart’s recent 3-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, Undav remained noncommittal when questioned about his future, stating simply, “We’ll see what happens.” This response underscores the ongoing nature of the negotiations and the player’s careful approach to discussing his contract situation. Securing Undav to a long-term deal would represent a significant coup for Stuttgart, solidifying their attacking options as they prepare for Champions League football next season.
