VfB Stuttgart’s pursuit of Dženan Pejčinović has hit a roadblock as negotiations with VfL Wolfsburg remain stalled over the transfer fee. The Germany U21 international has expressed a desire to join Stuttgart, who qualified for the Champions League this season, but the clubs are currently far apart in their valuation of the player.
Stuttgart initially submitted a bid of €16 million, with a further €2 million contingent on performance-based bonuses, which Wolfsburg promptly rejected according to reports. Wolfsburg, now competing in the 2. Bundesliga after relegation, are holding firm on a €25 million valuation for Pejčinović. Recent reports from Bild indicate that a revised offer of €22 million from Stuttgart has not yet been formally received by Wolfsburg as of today.
Sources at Bild suggest Stuttgart’s hierarchy have indicated a willingness to increase their offer further, though it is expected to remain below Wolfsburg’s asking price. Wolfsburg’s sporting director, Dieter Hecking, recently affirmed the club’s position in an interview with WAZ, stating, “Dzenan has a contract with us. We have a clear opinion. We don't want to sell him. But, we don’t know what tomorrow will bring.”
Pejčinović, 22, has been a consistent performer for Wolfsburg, despite their recent struggles. He made 28 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring seven goals. Stuttgart view him as a key addition to their attacking line as they prepare for a challenging Champions League campaign. With the transfer proving difficult, Stuttgart are reportedly exploring alternative options, including Feyenoord winger Leo Sauer, who is also attracting interest from TSG Hoffenheim. Sauer, a 20-year-old Slovak international, is under contract with Feyenoord until 2028.
The impasse leaves Pejčinović’s future uncertain, though his preference remains a move to Stuttgart. Wolfsburg’s firm stance suggests they are reluctant to lose a valuable asset without receiving a fee that reflects his potential. A compromise will likely be needed for the transfer to materialize, or Stuttgart may need to shift their focus entirely to alternative targets.
