Sunderland are preparing a significant transfer push for both Amar Muharemovic of Sassuolo and Jhon Lucumí of Bologna, potentially creating an opportunity for Juventus in their pursuit of the two defenders. The newly promoted Premier League side, qualifying for the Europa League after a 52-year absence, have a transfer budget exceeding 100 million euros.
According to reports, Sunderland would be capable of meeting the financial demands for both players. Lucumí has a release clause of 28 million euros valid until mid-July, while Sassuolo are seeking 40 million euros for Muharemovic. Furthermore, the club is prepared to meet the wage expectations of both players, including the 3-4 million euros per year requested by Muharemovic, a figure that previously stalled negotiations with Juventus.
Sunderland currently prioritize Muharemovic, aged 23, with Lucumí, 28, considered as an alternative. Juventus are monitoring the situation closely, hoping to capitalize on any developments. The structure of the potential deals could prove advantageous for the Turin club.
If Sunderland successfully secure a deal for Muharemovic, Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali and sporting director Massara would receive approximately 20 million euros from their 50% share of any future sale, funds that could then be redirected towards acquiring Lucumí for Bologna. Conversely, if Sunderland opt for Lucumí, Juventus would face reduced competition for Muharemovic. This dynamic suggests a potentially beneficial outcome for Juventus, turning a competitive situation into a favorable compromise. Juventus have been linked with both players as they look to bolster their defensive options ahead of the upcoming season.
