Jano ter Horst has completed a permanent transfer from 2. Bundesliga side Preußen Münster to newly promoted Bundesliga club SC Paderborn, the latter announced on Friday. The transfer fee is reported to be over €300,000, as Paderborn look to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to the top flight for the 2026-27 season.
The move sees ter Horst join a Paderborn side that secured promotion via the 2. Bundesliga playoffs, finishing third in the regular season before overcoming Kaiserslautern over two legs. Paderborn are anticipating potential departures in their own squad, with right-back Laurin Curda heavily linked with moves to both 1. FC Köln and Hamburger SV, and ter Horst is expected to compete for that position.
Ter Horst, 23, established himself as a key player for Preußen Münster despite their relegation from the 2. Bundesliga. He made 32 appearances across all competitions last season, contributing three assists and demonstrating consistent performances in a struggling team. His versatility in defense was highlighted by Paderborn sporting director Sebastian Lange, who believes he will be a valuable asset.
“Jano's profile is a great fit for our club,” Lange stated. “He's versatile in defense. He's also fast, a team player, and has potential for further development. Jano also impresses with his tremendous mentality and excellent physical attributes.” Lange added that the club are “really looking forward to him” and are “convinced he’ll showcase his qualities in the Bundesliga.”
Preußen Münster will be hoping to rebuild following their relegation, and the sale of ter Horst provides a financial boost as they prepare for life in the 3. Liga. For Paderborn, the signing represents a proactive step in bolstering their squad with a young, promising talent as they prepare for the challenges of the Bundesliga. The addition of ter Horst provides competition and depth in a key position, potentially setting them up for a successful return to the top division.
