Aston Villa have been alerted to potential interest from Bayern Munich in midfielder Youri Tielemans this summer, with one commentator suggesting the Belgian is ideally suited to the Bundesliga champions. Jelle Tack, speaking to Het Nieuwsblad, described Tielemans as a ‘perfect fit’ for Bayern, citing his calmness on the ball and ability to dictate play.
Tielemans joined Villa ahead of the 2024/25 season following a successful spell at Leicester City, where he won the FA Cup. He enjoyed a strong first campaign with the Birmingham club, winning both the Supporters’ and Players’ Player of the Season awards. While his goal and assist numbers this season – one goal and seven assists in 32 appearances – haven’t quite matched that level, his recent performances, particularly in the Europa League win against Nottingham Forest, have indicated a return to form.
The 28-year-old is currently under contract at Villa Park until 2028, and the club are reportedly in discussions over a new deal, with manager Unai Emery having personally appealed to the player to stay. However, a strong showing for Belgium at the upcoming World Cup could significantly increase his market value and attract offers from top European clubs.
Tack believes Tielemans’s ambition may lead him to seek a move to a club with greater European pedigree than Villa, stating that while Villa are a “good” club, they are not part of England’s traditional ‘big six’. He highlighted Bayern’s need for a player of Tielemans’s qualities, suggesting he could seamlessly integrate into their midfield. Any potential suitor would likely have to exceed his current Transfermarkt valuation of €35 million (£30m / $41m) to secure his signature. Villa are also facing potential exits elsewhere, with goalkeeper Emi Martinez linked with a move to Liverpool.
