Sandro Tonali is nearing a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, with the North London club submitting a bid exceeding €100 million, according to Sky Italia transfer insider Gianluca di Marzio. The Italy international midfielder is the subject of significant interest from several Premier League clubs, but Tottenham are currently leading the chase.
Tonali joined Newcastle United last summer for a reported €70 million, quickly establishing himself as a key player in Eddie Howe’s midfield. However, the 24-year-old was reportedly offered to Arsenal in January, signaling a potential willingness to move after just one season. Manchester United and Manchester City have also been linked with the player, demonstrating his high demand within the league.
Tottenham’s pursuit of Tonali comes as part of an ambitious summer overhaul under new head coach Roberto de Zerbi. Spurs have already secured four signings this window, demonstrating a renewed commitment to competing at the highest level. They recently agreed a €98 million deal with West Ham for Mateus Fernandes, beating Manchester United to the Brazilian’s signature.
While Newcastle have publicly maintained their desire to retain Tonali, progress in negotiations with Tottenham suggests a sale is becoming increasingly likely. Di Marzio reports that significant headway has been made, stating that “Tonali and Tottenham have never been closer than they are now,” though Newcastle are yet to formally respond to the latest offer. The club may seek a fee exceeding €100 million, citing Elliot Anderson’s recent €134 million move to Manchester City as a benchmark for midfielder valuations.
Discussions between the clubs have also extended to Archie Gray, with Newcastle submitting an opening bid that has been rejected by Tottenham. Spurs are reportedly hesitant to allow Gray to depart, particularly with Lucas Bergvall also seeking a move away from the club. Losing both midfielders would weaken De Zerbi’s options, even with the potential arrivals of Fernandes and Tonali. The situation remains fluid, but Tonali’s move to Tottenham appears to be gaining momentum.
