Tottenham Hotspur are progressing in talks to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein. The Italy international is a key target for Spurs manager Roberto de Zerbi, and the player is reportedly open to the move despite interest from Manchester City, who are also pursuing Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson. Romano stated that as of today, the deal remains “on” with Tottenham, while Ornstein confirmed the opening of negotiations between the two clubs.
Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha is attracting attention from Manchester United, though he recently signed a new contract with the German club. TEAMtalk reports that while Dortmund are reluctant to sell, a fee of around €60 million could potentially change their stance. Nmecha, a product of Manchester City’s academy, is reportedly keen on a return to England.
Arsenal and Manchester United are both vying for the signature of Brentford striker Igor Thiago, who scored 25 goals in all competitions last season. RTI Esporte reports that Arsenal have “stepped up” their efforts to sign the Brazilian international, who is currently participating in the World Cup, with Mikel Arteta identified as a long-term admirer.
Despite previous interest, Manchester United are not currently pursuing Tottenham captain Cristian Romero, according to Fabrizio Romano. While the Red Devils enquired about the Argentine centre-back months ago, there have been no recent approaches. Romano suggests that if Romero does leave Tottenham, his preference would be a move to a league outside of England.
Arsenal are preparing an €80 million bid for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, as reported by CaughtOffside. PSG are willing to let Barcola depart, but are holding out for a fee closer to €100 million. The gap in valuation could prove to be a sticking point, with other clubs also interested in the France international. Several other transfer rumours are circulating, including potential moves for Mike Maignan, Mateus Fernandes, Alejandro Grimaldo, Lois Openda, Nick Woltemade, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and Josh Mulligan, indicating a busy summer transfer window across Europe.
