Dino Toppmöller is currently in discussions with Crystal Palace regarding the vacant head coach position, according to Sky Germany. The 45-year-old is being considered as a replacement for Oliver Glasner, who recently departed Selhurst Park. Toppmöller is seeking a swift return to management after being relieved of his duties at Eintracht Frankfurt in January.
Toppmöller’s time at Frankfurt spanned from the summer of 2023 until his dismissal earlier this year, where he guided the team to a respectable mid-table finish in the Bundesliga and a UEFA Conference League title. Prior to his role at Frankfurt, he served as an assistant coach to Julian Nagelsmann at both RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich, gaining valuable experience at the highest level of German football. He also had a spell as head coach of Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, leading them to a Belgian Cup final.
Crystal Palace are in the market for a new manager following Glasner’s departure at the end of the season. Glasner had stabilised the team after taking over mid-season, but the club are now looking for a permanent appointment to oversee a longer-term project. The Eagles finished 14th in the Premier League last season, and will be aiming to build a more consistent campaign next year.
Alongside Crystal Palace, Toppmöller has also been linked with several other prominent clubs. Sky Germany reports that SSC Napoli, Al-Ittihad, and VfL Wolfsburg have all expressed interest in the German coach. However, it appears Palace are currently leading the race to secure his services. The potential appointment of Toppmöller could signal a shift towards a more proactive and tactically flexible approach at Selhurst Park, building on the foundations laid by his predecessor.
No fee or contract details have been disclosed at this stage, with negotiations reportedly ongoing. The club has yet to confirm any official approach or agreement with Toppmöller.
