Torino set to make Marko Vlasic loan move permanent
Torino are finalising a deal to sign midfielder Marko Vlasic on a permanent basis following his successful loan spell from West Ham United, according to reports from Italy. The Croatian international, who spent the 2023-24 season with the Serie A club, is expected to complete a transfer for a fee in the region of 10 million euros.
Vlasic joined Torino on a season-long loan last summer, with the agreement containing an option to buy. The club's hierarchy, led by president Urbano Cairo and sporting director Davide Vagnati, have now decided to trigger that clause, convinced by the player's impact both on and off the pitch. While neither club has yet made an official announcement, sources close to the negotiation indicate the formalities are being completed.
The 26-year-old quickly established himself as a key figure for Ivan Juric's side, making 34 league appearances and contributing four goals and three assists. His technical quality and work rate in the attacking midfield role were vital for a Torino team that often relied on his creativity. Notably, Vlasic emerged as a vocal leader within the dressing room, a point emphasised by Italian media which highlighted his willingness to demand higher standards from teammates during difficult moments in the campaign.
This permanent move represents a fresh start for Vlasic after a challenging period in England. Signed by West Ham from CSKA Moscow for approximately 30 million pounds in 2021, he struggled to secure a consistent place in the Premier League, making only 19 top-flight appearances before being loaned out. His successful reinvention in Turin has now provided a clear path forward, allowing him to settle at a club where he is highly valued.
For Torino, securing Vlasic is a significant piece of summer business, providing stability and proven quality to their creative department as they aim to build on a solid, if unspectacular, mid-table finish. For West Ham, the sale concludes their involvement with the player and recoups a portion of their initial investment. The transfer is seen as a sensible conclusion for all parties, with Vlasic expected to be a cornerstone of Torino's project for the foreseeable future.
