Tottenham scout AIK winger Zadok Yohanna as De Zerbi eyes another Swedish talent
Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring AIK winger Zadok Yohanna, with scouts from the Premier League club watching the 18-year-old in action last week, according to reports in Sweden. Expressen states that Spurs officials were present to see the Nigerian teenager play in AIK's 2-1 Allsvenskan defeat to Degerfors on Thursday, as manager Roberto De Zerbi looks to repeat the club's successful acquisition of Lucas Bergvall.
Yohanna, who has been labelled an "exceptional" talent and touted as the future of Nigerian football, was reportedly unaware of the scouts' presence. "I didn't know there were scouts here," he said after the match. "I'm just focusing on myself. Of course I have dreams. But for now I'm 100% focussed on AIK." At least two Premier League scouts were in attendance for the fixture, with Tottenham confirmed as one of the interested parties.
The young winger, who wears the number 36 shirt once donned by Alexander Isak at AIK, has drawn significant praise for his all-round attacking game. Degerfors coach Henok Goitom, who instructed his defenders to double-mark Yohanna, told Expressen, "Yohanna is an exceptional player. I love watching him play. He plays like he plays on the street. He is exceptional because he is a winger and you don't think he would be good in the air, but he is good with his head. He is good with his shooting. And the more experience he gets, the more dangerous he will become. Because he has everything."
Goitom added that Yohanna possesses a confident, direct style and believes the player has the potential to reach one of Europe's top five leagues. Tottenham's interest is underpinned by their recent triumph in the Swedish market. The club signed Lucas Bergvall from Djurgarden in early 2024 for an initial fee around €10 million, a deal that has proven to be a major success. Bergvall's Estimated Transfer Value has since soared to nearly €55 million, demonstrating the significant value that can be found in Sweden's top flight.
This successful precedent is likely encouraging Spurs as they track Yohanna ahead of the summer transfer window. De Zerbi is aiming to conduct business early, with the club already having an agreement in principle with Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, who will arrive on a free transfer. Securing a promising talent like Yohanna would align with a strategy of investing in high-potential youth, a model that has paid dividends with Bergvall. For AIK, a sale would represent a significant financial opportunity, while for the player, a move to the Premier League would mark a major step in his developing career.
