Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced discussions with Brighton & Hove Albion regarding a potential transfer for centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke, according to Sky Sports.
The North London club have reportedly submitted an initial offer for the 24-year-old Dutch defender, which has been rejected by Brighton’s board. Tottenham are seeking to bolster their defensive options under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, aiming to avoid a repeat of last season’s performance.
Van Hecke enjoyed a strong season with Brighton, making 30 appearances across all competitions and establishing himself as a key player in their backline. He joined Brighton from Heracles Almelo in 2020, initially featuring for the club’s under-23s before breaking into the first team. His performances have drawn attention from several Premier League clubs, but Tottenham appear to be leading the chase.
Alongside the pursuit of Van Hecke, Tottenham are also exploring other defensive options, including Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi and Liverpool’s Andy Robertson, who recently announced his departure from Anfield. The club is also reportedly interested in Manchester City winger Savinho, with a potential bid expected in the coming days to address attacking concerns following the end of Randal Kolo Muani’s loan spell and a serious injury to Xavi Simons.
The need for defensive reinforcement is clear for De Zerbi, as he looks to reshape the Tottenham squad. Securing Van Hecke would represent a significant step in strengthening the team’s backline and providing greater stability ahead of the new Premier League season. The potential addition of Savinho would also offer attacking impetus, as Tottenham aim to compete at the highest level.
