Tottenham Hotspur have entered negotiations with Anderlecht regarding a potential move for 17-year-old midfielder Nathan De Cat, according to TEAMtalk. The North London club faces competition from several other prominent European sides, including Bayern Munich and Manchester United, for the highly-rated Belgian talent.
De Cat has quickly established himself as a key player for Anderlecht, earning a senior international cap for Belgium despite his young age. He is described as a powerful defensive midfielder possessing excellent ball-winning skills, precise passing ability, and leadership qualities. Anderlecht’s sporting director is facing a difficult decision as De Cat’s contract is set to expire in 2027, potentially forcing a sale this summer.
Anderlecht are reportedly seeking a fee of around €40 million (£34.7m / $45.8m) for De Cat, which would represent a club-record transfer fee. Several German clubs, including Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, and VfB Stuttgart, have also expressed strong interest, attracted by his tactical intelligence and suitability for their high-pressing systems. These clubs have a strong reputation for developing young players, making a move to the Bundesliga a plausible outcome.
In the Premier League, Manchester United have also made enquiries, while Manchester City and Chelsea are conducting background checks on the player. Aston Villa, Everton, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United have also registered interest, though Tottenham and the other ‘elite’ clubs are considered to be in a stronger position. Brighton, who had a bid rejected in January, remain keen, and Sporting CP have also shown fleeting interest. Tottenham view De Cat as a potential long-term solution in the deep-lying playmaker role.
Discussions regarding a possible loan-back arrangement, allowing De Cat to spend another season with Anderlecht, have been suggested as a way to facilitate the transition. The final decision will likely depend on playing time guarantees, the development pathway offered, and the overall ambition of the interested clubs. De Cat is widely expected to move to a major European club this summer, with his potential making him a highly sought-after prospect.
