Tottenham Hotspur are currently the frontrunners to sign Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford this summer, according to reports from AS Roma Live. The England international spent last season on loan at Barcelona, with the Catalan club having a €30 million (£26m) option to make the deal permanent, which they ultimately declined.
Barcelona had hoped to renegotiate another loan agreement for Rashford, but Manchester United are now seeking a permanent sale should he depart Old Trafford. While both Rashford and the club initially favoured a separation, recent discussions have opened the door for the 26-year-old to be reintegrated into Michael Carrick’s squad for the upcoming season. Should no suitable transfer materialize before the start of the Premier League campaign, Carrick is prepared to include Rashford in his first-team plans.
Despite interest from Roma, Napoli, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Galatasaray, and Fenerbahçe, Tottenham have reportedly made the most concrete contact with Rashford and his representatives. The Italian clubs, while acknowledging Rashford’s quality, are hesitant due to his current salary of around €8.4 million, including bonuses. Fenerbahçe have reportedly begun negotiations, but Tottenham’s position appears strongest at this stage.
Fabrizio Romano reported on his YouTube channel that Rashford has communicated a positive message to Manchester United regarding a potential stay, and a recent meeting between the player’s agents and the club was described as “positive”. However, Rashford remains open to a move if a compelling offer emerges. The situation remains fluid with eight weeks remaining in the transfer window, and Manchester United view Rashford as a potential asset should other attacking targets prove unattainable.
Rashford has struggled for consistent form at United in recent seasons, but remains a proven Premier League goalscorer. A move to Tottenham could offer him a fresh start and a prominent role in Ange Postecoglou’s attack. The potential arrival of Rashford would provide Tottenham with much-needed depth and quality in the forward line, while also alleviating some of the pressure on current options.
