Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made an approach to Los Angeles FC regarding a potential move to re-sign forward Son Heung-min, according to former club scout Bryan King. The club is seeking to bolster its attacking options following a disappointing season where they finished 17th in the Premier League.
King revealed the information, stating he heard from a reliable source that Tottenham have been attempting to bring Son back for the upcoming season, potentially on a loan deal. The club has already made strides in strengthening its defense with the signings of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, as well as securing a new contract for Pedro Porro.
Son departed Tottenham after making 454 appearances for the club, having previously lifted silverware with the team in the Europa League. However, his exit came amidst a period of league struggles, finishing 17th in the Premier League, and a perceived lack of competitiveness. He currently earns a significant salary as one of the highest-paid players in Major League Soccer, behind only Lionel Messi.
Despite the potential appeal of bringing a club legend back to North London, a return for Son is not considered particularly likely. The circumstances surrounding his departure remain relevant, and the financial implications of a loan deal – particularly regarding wage coverage – present a significant hurdle. LAFC would likely be reluctant to contribute substantially to the salary of a player not actively playing for them, while Tottenham may hesitate to offer a wage exceeding that of many current squad members.
Nevertheless, Son’s experience and passion could provide a lift to a Tottenham side that has struggled in recent seasons. However, at 33 years old, he is entering the later stages of his career, and his decision to leave previously suggests a waning desire to compete in the Premier League. A successful reunion would depend on navigating complex financial considerations and convincing Son of a renewed project at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
