Tottenham and Manchester United linked with Besiktas striker Oh Hyeon-gyu
Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Besiktas striker Oh Hyeon-gyu ahead of a potential summer move, according to Turkish outlet Turkiye Gazetesi. The 25-year-old South Korean international has attracted significant attention with a prolific run of form since joining the Turkish Süper Lig club in February.
Oh Hyeon-gyu moved to Besiktas from Belgian side Genk for a fee in the region of €14 million earlier this year. Initially seen as a squad option, he has quickly established himself as a key figure, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in just ten appearances. His performances have been described in the South Korean press as a 'high-goal explosion,' and he has also carried his club form onto the international stage, scoring in recent friendlies against Paraguay and Mexico.
The reported interest from England presents two starkly different potential destinations. Tottenham, under manager Roberto de Zerbi, are expected to be in the market for attacking reinforcements. The club's current options have been hampered by inconsistency and injury, with Dominic Solanke, Richarlison, and loanee Randal Kolo Muani failing to secure the centre-forward role. However, Tottenham's pursuit is complicated by their precarious league position; they currently sit 18th in the Premier League, and their ability to attract a player of Oh's rising profile could hinge on avoiding relegation.
Manchester United, by contrast, are enjoying a strong season and are on course for Champions League qualification. According to reports, they are also assessing striker options, with Joshua Zirkzee potentially departing. Oh Hyeon-gyu would represent a different profile of signing, offering a potential long-term project rather than an established star. His contract with Besiktas runs until 2029, giving the Turkish club a strong negotiating position should any formal offers materialise.
For Tottenham, a move for Oh Hyeon-gyu would also tap into the club's substantial South Korean fanbase, cultivated through the enduring popularity of captain Son Heung-min. The potential partnership between the two international teammates could be a marketing and sporting attraction. For the player, a transfer would represent a significant step up, though questions remain about his readiness for the physical demands of the Premier League, having only recently adapted to European football in Belgium and Turkey.
The coming months are likely to be decisive in determining Oh's future. His participation in the upcoming World Cup offers a major platform to enhance his reputation and market value further. Should he perform well on that stage, the competition for his signature could intensify beyond the two currently linked English clubs, potentially inflating any transfer fee. For now, the interest from Tottenham and Manchester United remains at the scouting stage, with both clubs weighing a move for a striker whose rapid rise shows no immediate signs of slowing.
