Manchester United are considering a loan offer from Trabzonspor for goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to reports in Turkey. The Turkish Super Lig side have submitted a formal proposal to both the player and United, hoping to secure his services for next season.
Onana joined Manchester United in July 2023 for a reported £47.2 million, including add-ons, during Erik ten Hag’s tenure. However, the Cameroonian international struggled to establish himself as a consistent performer at Old Trafford, making several high-profile errors that led to him being dropped from the starting lineup. He was subsequently loaned to Trabzonspor last summer.
The 30-year-old experienced a resurgence in form during his time in Turkey, making 34 appearances and conceding 42 goals for Trabzonspor this season. This improved form has prompted the club to make an official offer to retain him.
While Manchester United would prefer to sell Onana permanently to recoup a portion of the initial transfer fee, the report suggests Trabzonspor’s proposal includes a loan deal with ‘very attractive economic terms’ for the player. Onana himself is reportedly taking time to consider his options, indicating he is not in a rush to make a decision.
Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan recently expressed his desire for Onana to remain with the club, stating, “He has a certain plan for his career. If the conditions are right, we want him to stay. The final decision will be Onana’s.”
With Senne Lammens now established as Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper under Michael Carrick, Onana’s future at Old Trafford appears uncertain. INEOS will be eager to streamline the squad and generate funds through player sales, but finding a permanent buyer for Onana may prove challenging.
