Leandro Trossard has completed a move to Besiktas, Arsenal announced on Tuesday. The 31-year-old Belgian forward is expected in Istanbul imminently to undergo a medical with the Turkish club, and has already been pictured in Besiktas colours on social media. The transfer will yield approximately €20 million for Arsenal, according to reports in the British press.
Trossard spent three and a half seasons at Arsenal, featuring in 174 matches and contributing 37 goals and 31 assists. He initially joined the London club in January 2023 from Brighton & Hove Albion, where he also played for three and a half years. Prior to his spells in England, Trossard developed his career in his native Belgium.
The move represents a new chapter for the Belgian international, who has earned 57 caps and scored 14 goals for his country. He recently returned from the World Cup, and will now experience a third top-flight league after playing in Belgium and the Premier League. Trossard’s departure from Arsenal comes after a period where he was a regular contributor, though not always a guaranteed starter, in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Besiktas will be hoping Trossard can bring his goalscoring and creative abilities to the Turkish Super Lig. Arsenal, meanwhile, will look to reinvest the €20 million fee to strengthen their own squad, particularly given their ongoing ambitions in both the Premier League and Champions League. The transfer provides Trossard with a fresh challenge and a prominent role in a new league, while offering Besiktas a proven attacking talent.
