Troyes, recently promoted to Ligue 1, are on the verge of officially announcing the signing of midfielder Iron Gomis. The 26-year-old is expected to sign a two-year contract with the club, according to L’Équipe. Gomis was also a target for Guingamp, a Ligue 2 side, but has chosen to continue his career in the French top flight.
Gomis is currently a free agent, having departed Zira of the Azerbaijani Premier League on June 30th. The Marseillais-born player brings significant experience from the French second tier, having made 99 appearances for Amiens and Dunkerque. He also spent time in Italy with Salernitana, making five Serie A appearances.
Gomis primarily operates as a central midfielder, functioning as a relay player who connects defense and attack. During his time at Amiens, he established himself as a consistent performer, contributing both defensively and in possession. His spell at Dunkerque further solidified his reputation as a reliable midfielder in Ligue 2, though he saw limited opportunities in his brief stint with Salernitana.
Troyes’s promotion to Ligue 1 has prompted a need to strengthen their midfield options, and Gomis represents a cost-effective and experienced addition. The club will be hoping he can quickly adapt to the demands of the top flight and contribute to their efforts to remain competitive. This move provides Gomis with a platform to showcase his abilities at a higher level and establish himself as a Ligue 1 player.
