Antoine Sibierski, sporting director of Troyes for the past two years, will leave the club to join Anderlecht, according to reports in L’Équipe. The move comes after a period of disagreement with Troyes executive president Edwin Pindi.
Anderlecht are currently undergoing a period of reconstruction, with their last league title coming in 2017. The Belgian club are significantly behind Club Bruges in the current league standings and anticipate a substantial overhaul of the squad in the coming weeks. Sibierski will be tasked with navigating this rebuild, operating without the backing of the City Group, who have a significant stake in Troyes.
Sibierski previously enjoyed a playing career as an attacking midfielder, featuring for clubs such as Nantes and Lens in France, as well as spending time in Spain and England with Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers. His transition to a sporting director role at Troyes saw the club achieve promotion to Ligue 1, though they were recently relegated back to Ligue 2.
Several names have been linked with replacing Sibierski at Troyes, including former France international Bafétimbi Gomis, Jocelyn Blanchard, and Julien Fournier. The departure of Sibierski potentially closes a pathway to a closer relationship with Manchester City for Troyes, as he had strong ties to the City Football Group. This move to Anderlecht represents a new challenge for Sibierski as he aims to restore the Belgian side to prominence.
