Harry Kane’s transfer to Bayern Munich in 2023 has proven beneficial for the striker’s development, according to former Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel, who oversaw Kane’s arrival at the Allianz Arena, revealed he had to overcome internal resistance to secure the England captain’s signature.
Kane departed Tottenham Hotspur seeking silverware, and has found considerable success in Germany, scoring 146 goals in 147 appearances for Bayern. The Athletic reported Tuchel’s comments made during a press conference following England’s 3-2 World Cup round-of-16 victory against Mexico, where Kane contributed a goal and an assist.
Tuchel described Kane as a “unique player and personality,” stating he “fought the fight” to bring him to Munich despite differing opinions within the club. He believes the move to the Bundesliga was the correct step for Kane, exposing him to a “demanding culture” and a high-intensity playing style under current Bayern manager Vincent Kompany.
Prior to the move, Kane had established himself as one of the Premier League’s premier goalscorers during his time at Tottenham, but lacked major team trophies. Tuchel highlighted the significance of Kane winning titles with Bayern, suggesting it has alleviated pressure and allowed him to flourish. He praised Kane’s dedication and team spirit, noting his commitment to the club.
The transfer came after lengthy speculation regarding Kane’s future, with several clubs reportedly interested in acquiring the prolific striker. Kane himself previously acknowledged Tuchel’s influence in his decision to join Bayern, indicating the coach’s vision for his role within the team was a key factor. This move has solidified Kane’s position as one of the world’s leading forwards and provided Bayern with a consistent goal threat, potentially setting them up for continued success in both domestic and European competitions.
