Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been appointed as the new manager of Feyenoord, signing a contract with the Dutch club until 2028. The announcement marks a return for the former Netherlands international, who is well-known to the club’s supporters and hierarchy.
Van Bronckhorst is a familiar figure at De Kuip, the home stadium of Feyenoord, having come through the club’s youth system and played for them in two separate spells – from 1994 to 1998 and again from 2007 to 2010, where he ended his playing career. He previously managed Feyenoord between 2015 and 2019, leading them to the Eredivisie title in 2017.
Following his first spell in charge, Van Bronckhorst moved to Rangers, where he won the Scottish Premiership title in 2021, ending a decade-long wait for the club. He later had a stint at Beşiktaş before joining the coaching staff at Liverpool. His return to Feyenoord comes after a period of instability for the Rotterdam-based club, as they seek to regain their position as a dominant force in Dutch football.
The appointment also signals a departure for Robin van Persie, whose role within the club is now concluded. Van Bronckhorst’s deep connection to Feyenoord, combined with his proven track record as a manager, makes him a popular choice among the club’s fanbase. This move is expected to bring stability and a clear tactical direction to the team. His previous success with the club suggests he can quickly integrate and improve the squad’s performance, potentially challenging for domestic honours in the coming seasons.
